Compare cast steel ball and forged steel ball
Which is better between cast steel ball and forged (hot rolled)steel ball?
Mostly companies used cast steel ball in the world now.
(1) Rough surface: the sprue gate is easy to suffer the flattop in use process, causing the deformation and out of roundness, thus affecting the grinding effect;
(2) Internal loosening: the internal structure of the ball is thick and big due to the molding by casting, so the percentage of damage is high in use process with small impact toughness; the bigger the ball is, and the bigger the grinding machine is, the more easily the ball will be broken;
(3) Not suitable for wet grinding: the abrasive resistance of ball depends on the chromium content; the higher the chromium content is, the more wear-resisting the ball will be; but the chromium is easy to be corroded, and the higher the chromium content is, the more easily the chromium will be corroded, especially the sulfur in the ore; using the chromium balls under the wet grinding conditions will increase the cost and reduce the production.
(4) More pollution
2. More and more companies choose forged (hot rolled) steel ball now and in the future.
(1) Smooth surface: produced by the forging technology, no defects in the surface without the deformation and out of roundness, and keep the good effect of ore grinding.
(2) Internal tightness: it is forged by the round steel, so it avoids the defect caused by the technology under the cast condition with high internal density and high fine particle degree, and enhances the dropping resistance and impact toughness of ball, thus reducing the breakage rate of the ball.
(3) Suitable for both dry and wet grinding: it adopts the high-quality alloy steel and new efficient anti-wear materials independently developed by our company, the alloying element is matched rationally with rare elements, and the chromium content is controlled, thus the corrosion resistance is greatly improved; the wet grinding is widely used in the mine, so this steel ball is more suitable for the working condition.

(4) If using the semi-autogenous mill, the large ball with the diameter of 100-150mm can not only reduce the unit consumption, but also increase the handling capacity, but as a result of the casting process defects, the breakage rate of cast ball is much higher than the forged ball.
(5) Simply speaking, the cast ball is the heat-resisting ball (suitable for dry grinding, such as the ball grinder in cement plant), and the forged ball is the corrosion-resisting ball (suitable for wet grinding, large mines, power plants, etc); the cast ball is suitable for the 1.5-3.8m grinder, while the forged ball is suitable for 1.5-11m grinder.
(6) Almost no polution.
